HANDS ACROSS LONG ISLAND (HALI) was formed in 1988 as a grassroots, multi-service, organization managed and operated by, and for, psychiatric survivors. Today, HALI is the largest and most successful peer-run, multi-service, mental health organization in NY State, helping over 3,500 consumers each year.
The HALI Difference
HALI works with the expectation that people CAN and DO RECOVER, work, have meaningful relationships, become contributing members of their communities and lead lives worth living. HALI believes that people receiving services are not patients, but PEOPLE WITH POTENTIAL.

Hands Across Long Island (HALI) benefits individuals, communities and Government.

Participants of HALI programs:
Have fewer hospitalizations (saving taxpayer $$)
Are often fully employed, making them taxpayers and reducing reliance on public assistance
Are often students at local colleges, trade schools or in GED programs

To date HALI participants have been trained in Auto Technology; Phlebotomy; Radiology; Nursing and more!
HALI Mission Statement: HALI is a peer community providing the opportunity for recovery from mental illness through collaborative creative efforts.

HALI Values Statement: Hands Across Long Island, Inc. strives to excel and believes strongly in the capacity of others to excel. People are the bedrock of the organization, and we invest in human potential - in ourselves, in community leaders with vision and passion, and in individuals and communities dedicated to transforming themselves. We value efforts where those who benefit have the chance to shape their own path to self-determination, and we help them create their own opportunities where barriers often exist.

HALI Vision Statement: Hands Across Long Island will continue to create vital programs which provide empowerment, strength, and assistance in the recovery process of psychiatric consumers and survivors.
